"You can have best website in the world but if nobody comes to it, it's a complete waste of time". What is the point of having a website if nobody finds it? Your's is one of millions of websites on the Internet.
Advice on Search Engine Optimisation
Nobody can profess to being an expert and nobody has the complete answer. The way search engines work changes all the time. The best thing you can do is follow some simple rules:
1) Buy a domain name that describes your products and services.
2) Buy a .COM and/or .CO.UK domain name.
3) If possible register the domain name for more than two years.
4) Make sure your website has the correct text content and balance.
5) Host with a UK company that only supports businesses.
How It Works
Your website is not complete until it has been Search Engine optimised. This entails the inclusion of META Tags in the website : Title, Description, Keywords etc. linking to text in various font sizes.
The most important web page is your Home Page (index.html etc). This is the first page that is viewed on your website. It is essential that the META tags are replicated in the text on this page. Text, within FLASH, cannot be read by a search engine spider. To ask a search engine to spider your website, it needs to be submitted.

First UK Design, provides Search Engine Optimisation and three month's Website Submissions, as part of the service. At the design stage we start website optimisation. It is impossible to optimise a badly designed website.
Does It Work?
Please check the following search. I have included links to the relevant search engines, just copy and paste.
I own the domain names softwareforrestaurants.com and softwareforrestaurants.co.uk. The domain names describe exactly what we do. We supply software for restaurants.
Please try searching in Google, Yahoo or MSN using the search term: software for restaurants
Google: http://www.google.co.uk/
Yahoo: http://uk.yahoo.com/
MSN: http://uk.msn.com/
ASK: http://uk.ask.com/
Lycos: http://search.lycos.co.uk/
Each of the listings includes a Cached page. This is the page that was spidered by the search engine and displays the META Tag text links, example Google cached page with highlighted text links (screen shot). You will see the word "software" highlighted in YELLOW and the word "restaurant" highlighted in BLUE. This is Google's way of displaying words it considers to be important on the website, and that link into the META Tags etc.
Beware of False Promises
Nobody can guarantee to place your website at the top in Google, Yahoo and MSN. It is not a quick fix. One scam is to ask you to pay a monthly subscription. All that company is doing is buying a pay-per-click program, with the search engines, using your money. You can do the same! If the highest bid is £4 and you deposit £4,000 with Google, then you will be displayed as the first sponsored link for 1,000 clicks. Once the money goes - so does your inclusion in the sponsored links. This is the quick solution for a new website but limit your daily expenditure.
Pay-per-Click
It's worth using pay-per-click because your new website will probably be spidered a lot sooner. However, if your business is within a highly competitive environment, it can be very expensive. Financial services websites can pay as much as £15 per click. Hopefully, you are paying a lot less and you can set a daily limit on expenditure. It's obviously more cost effective to have your website listed at the top without having to pay-per-click!
